Monthly Meeting .. April 2008

Jane Siragusa

Artist and Gallery Owner

Jane Siragusa gave a great presentation on Art for Profit for our members. Jane has a gallery in Morro Bay called the "Gallery at Marina Square." She spoke on the business of marketing art from the standpoint of a gallery owner. She had a lot of tips for us on location and exposure, advantages and disadvantages of a web site, and what is needed to promote work as an individual and in a gallery. She stressed that being "discovered" requires hard work and perseverance. The artist needs to be out in the art world at festivals, fairs and open studio tours.

Jane provided information on self promotion through business cards, postcards, portfolio, bio, and "mission statement." She discussed pricing artwork, professional matting and display. She also gave us examples of Certificate of Authenticity and discussed copyright rules. In addition, she provided resource guides for frames, postcards, Lucite racks, cards and folios.

Jane covered a lot of information with expertise and humor. She is really a gifted speaker and educator.
