Christine Anderson, a full time contemporary painter, has taught workshops for Central California Arts Network through Arts in Correction Program, has taught senior citizens groups and enjoys helping beginning artists develop and grow. She was appointed as an Art Commissioner for the City of Turlock where she served for 7 years, before relocating to the Central Coast.
Oil painting purists may shudder at the thought, but water-soluble oils are here to stay. They fit the needs of artists such as Christine Anderson who is allergic to turps. Water-soluble oils are oils that are water mixable, not water based.
Christine feels that water-soluble oils have definite advantages over traditional oil. They can be used together, but water-soluble oils are quicker to dry. Water-soluble paint lays down smoother with fewer brushstrokes showing and now Christine cleans her brushes with dish soap instead of turps.
She also likes the versatility of this paint. She demonstrated this quality by laying down an under-painting using her two signature colors, lavender and yellow. Then this paint was somewhat lightened using white acrylic gesso. Using a spray bottle, Christine added Cool Color Spray, a fabric dye, to her creation. She demonstrated how all this color could be easily wiped off the canvas with water if the artist is unhappy with the results. Below is just such an underpainting.
